ROAD SYSTEM AND MOBILITY

Sustainable mobility

The reorganisation of the Institute is also an opportunity to improve accessibility to the hospital facility for users and staff, identifying shared solutions with the Authorities involved.

The project intends to promote and enhance access to the Institute through green / public mobility, encouraging soft mobility and partnerships with the Italian State Railways, Ferrovie dello Stato, and the Urban Transport Service (AMT).

  • Urban transport service (AMT)

The use of public transport and the encouragement of forms of soft and shared mobility with the improvement of accessibility and the environmental impact are promoted by the presence of the Institute’s Mobility Management function.

Road system

The construction activities will affect via Redipuglia, limited to the stretch between the entrance of the Gaslini Institute, Largo Paolo Tolentino, and Largo Cattenei.

The changes to the local road system will take place starting from February 2024.

The executive project of the new road system is in the process of being defined, in collaboration with the Municipality of Genoa (through the Local Police).

To ensure accessibility to the construction site areas by Via Redipuglia, an alternate direction will be created regulated by traffic lights, activated only when heavy vehicles heading to the construction site arrive.

Parking spaces

The new road system on Via Redipuglia will lead to the elimination of some parking lots, to allow for the necessary widening of the roadway.

The construction activities will lead to the elimination of some parking spaces also in the areas inside the Institute.

To make up for the loss of parking spaces, both inside and outside the Institute, thanks to the collaboration with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Azienda Regionale Territoriale per l’Edilizia (A.R.T.E.), approximately 80 more parking spaces will be created, in the area of the former psychiatric hospital.

Internal road system

During the construction works, the internal road system will also undergo changes, with new pedestrian and vehicle routes (for users and emergency vehicles) and for logistics.
