THE DESIGN PRINCIPLES
The project aims at concentrating all healthcare activities into a single highly technological hub, based on a series of fundamental principles:
Zero impact orientation
Through the construction of the new Padiglione Zero according to Smart Green Building principles:
- reorganisation of the energy production and distribution system through the construction of the new Technology Hub and improving energy efficiency of the existing buildings;
- reduction of the number of heat islands with a new green area built close to the square in front of Pavilion 20 and use of materials with a low solar reflectance index for the newly built external horizontal paved areas.
Reduction of clinical risk
Through the reorganization of functions and centralization of healthcare activities in a single integrated hub, laid out on three levels according to the intensity of care principle.
Resilient internal organisation
Through the construction of a flexible and versatile structure, that can be adapted easily to different management requirements and to a dynamic care service delivery logic, in line with new developments in healthcare. An operation embracing the possibility of adapting to new horizons in research and treatment, allowing for organizational scenarios that are advantageous and practicable for both patients and healthcare providers.
Accessibility and usability
Through the creation of an environment that is accessible to users of all types, and which takes into consideration the unique nature of each patient and leverages the skills of the carers. An organization that reserves dedicated access and pathways for healthcare staff, users and various functions (emergency, logistics, external services), proximity between healthcare activities, no underground areas to be used for patients, additional comfort areas for long-term patients and their relatives.
Attractiveness and competitive capacity
Through a radical renewal that is organizational, spatial, architectural and technological and allowing the Institute, 85 years after its foundation, to offer even more innovative and competitive healthcare and other services both nationally and on a European level. An operation that offers additional treatment possibilities, more beds, improved reception and complementary facilities for both families and healthcare operators.
